Man At Center Of Lockyer Sex & Drug Scandal Hints At Larger Story
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – The man at the center of the sex and substance abuse scandal engulfing the wife of California Treasurer Bill Lockyer has spoken publicly about the case for the first time.
Stephen Chikhani broke his silence about his relationship with Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer Tuesday after a court appearance in San Jose. He told reporters outside of the courtroom that there's a "way bigger story than the sex tapes."
Chikhani was in court after a recent arrest for allegedly being under the influence of methamphetamine. The 35-year-old construction worker, who has a long record of drug arrests, met Lockyer in 2010 when both were attending a rehabilitation clinic.
KCBS, CBS 5 and SF Chronicle Insider Phil Matier Comments:
Chikhani and Nadia Lockyer reportedly had an intermittent affair that became public after she called police to a Newark hotel earlier this month to report that he assaulted her.
Chikhani's lawyer, Adrienne Dell, said that his client is not a stalker, as Bill Lockyer claimed following the incident. Dell also said Chikhani never assaulted Nadia Lockyer.
Bill Lockyer said that his wife was at the hotel to help Chikhani, who she believed was suicidal.
The investigation into the alleged assault has been referred to the state attorney general's office.
Chikhani has not been charged in the Newark case.
