Zoning Board To Discuss Plans For 2 Medical Marijuana Sites In Burlington County
MAPLE SHADE, NJ (CBS) - Zoning officials in Maple Shade will meet this evening for a hearing on a plan to allow a medical marijuana dispensary to be set up in their town.
Two non-profits have been approved to operate in South Jersey. They appear to have their sights set on Burlington County. Compassionate Sciences, based in New York State, wants to take over an abandoned furniture store along Route 73, according to their spokesman Andrei Bogolubov.
"It's in a well travelled area, which is very important to us, but within its own footprint, it's isolated from residences and other businesses." But they still need a place to cultivate a crop.
"We really respect what the municipality is going to do," Bogolubov says. "It's really up to them to decide. We want to be in a community that welcomes us."
They hope, with approval, to be up and running by next spring. That's about the same time frame targeted by the Compassionate Care Foundation in Mount Laurel, which has plans for an abandoned factory in Westampton, where they'll do everything. The Westampton plan does not require a zoning variance.
