Zombies To Invade Philadelphia This Weekend
By Chelsea Karnash
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – From television shows to the Homeland Security, it seems everyone is jumping on the zombie bandwagon and preparing for an impending zombie apocalypse. But one Philadelphia organization is having some fun with the phenomenon.
On Saturday, September 29, Philly Zombie Crawl—yes, it's an actual group—will be hosting its annual Zombie Prom. The event has been held at the Trocadero Theatre in Chinatown since 2008 and serves as a kick-off to the Halloween season.
Robert Drake, the event producer for the Zombie Prom, says the group began hosting zombie-themed pub crawls back in 2006. The events were so popular that the group decided to host a larger party; thus, the Zombie Prom was born.
Drake also says that the last two proms have sold out, resulting in an invasion, if you will, of more than 1,000 zombies in Chinatown.
Guests at the Zombie Prom are expected to dress the part, with the best zombie look-alikes winning the coveted title of Zombie Prom King & Queen. There will be live performances from bands Live Not on Evil and the Young Werewolves, as well as DJs spinning tracks on two floors. And don't forget to check out the Zombie Prom Photo station, or the pro-makeup artists on-site who are ready to give you the ghoulish zombie mug of your nightmares.
Interested in joining the walking dead at the Zombie Prom? You must be 21 or older with a valid ID. Tickets are $11 in advance and $16 on the day of the event. To purchase tickets, visit: www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/150621?wrKey=83565FD167051FE9CC0A5873DB78915F
