Zipcar Offering Free Cars To Help Voters Get To Polls
by John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's a drive to encourage voting.
A national car sharing company will offer free cars on election night so it's members can get to the polls.
Zipcar members can reserve free cars online or by mobile app. 300 cars will be available in the Philadelphia market from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
"We were already doing this promo, and it's really timely with the SEPTA strike. So if you don't have means of transportation, then Zip Car is a great option for you to get to the polls and get out and vote," said Anthony Vento, General Manager for Zipcar in Philadelphia.
He says the process is simple, and prospective members are welcome too.
"They can just go to zipcar.com, or they can download the free mobile app on their phone, and there is a join application there where they can just take a picture of their face and driver's license to confirm you are who you say you are. Then you are approved within minutes and you are good to go ahead and get a zipcar," Vento explained.
