Obama US Attorney Appointee Zane Memeger Resigns In Wake Of Trump Victory

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A third U.S. attorney in Pennsylvania has announced his resignation in the wake of the Republican presidential victory.

Zane Memeger has led the Philadelphia office since his 2010 appointment by Barack Obama.

PA Attorney General: No Evidence Of Conspiracy In Emails

The 52-year-old will leave office next month, before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

Memeger has overseen the prosecutions of former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, domestic terror suspect Colleen "Jihad Jane" LaRose and a Ukranian human trafficking ring. He has also worked on youth crime prevention and prisoner re-entry programs.

First Assistant Louis Lappen will serve as interim U.S. attorney.

Pennsylvania's retired Supreme Court chief justice, Republican Ronald Castille, has expressed interest in the post.

Pennsylvania's two other U.S. attorneys, Peter Smith in Harrisburg and David Hickton in Pittsburgh, previously announced their resignations, too. They are also Obama appointees.
