Young Montco Father Charged With Killing Infant Son In Violent Rage
LANSDALE, Pa. (CBS) - A 22-year-old Lansdale man is under arrest in Montgomery County, accused of murdering his three-month-old son while he was babysitting the child last weekend.
Authorities have charged Jameel East of Lantern Lane in Towamencin Township with third-degree murder and lying to police about what happened to his infant son, Enzo.
Police say the child was rushed to a local hospital Friday night, then transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull and brain injury and died on Saturday.
Montgomery County district attorney Risa Ferman says East finally admitted to detectives that he became enraged after the child had vomited on him.
"During the course of the evening the defendant became overwhelmed, angry, and violently shook his son, banging him against hard surfaces," DA Ferman says.
An autopsy shows the infant died of blunt cerebral trauma.
The child's 18-year-old mother told police the infant had been sick earlier that day but appeared fine when she gave him to his father later on Friday.
