Young Boy, Father Remembered During Church Services In Chester
By Tim Jimenez
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- A Chester church community gathered with heavy hearts Sunday morning, reflecting on a 4-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car on the day of his father's funeral (read related story).
4-year-old Karder Hardy spent some of his final moments at Murphy A.M.E Church for his father's funeral.
"Just knowing that the last church he was in was this one just makes all this so surreal," said Pastor Terrel McBride.
McBride, on Saturday, eulogized Derrick Brown, an innocent bystander killed by a bullet a week prior. And McBride recalls Brown's young son Karder during the funeral, full of life and innocence.
"He just kept going up to the coffin and running back and not really understanding the fullness of the situation," McBride said. "I think at one time he mentioned his father being asleep."
So, McBride's message on this Palm Sunday: "We love our children!" he proclaimed to the congregation on what was, coincidentally, a planned service dedicated to kids.
