Worley Gets Ball As Phillies Open Series With Giants

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a 4-2 roadtrip through Denver and Los Angeles, the Phillies are back home Friday night to open a six-game homestand with the first of three against the San Francisco Giants.

Even after the solid roadtrip, the Phillies still sit in last place in National League East with a 41-52 record.  The Giants are 51-41 and they lead those Dodgers by 2 1/2 games for first-place in National League West.

Vance Worley will start for the Phillies, he is 5-5 on the season and last time out he beat the Rockies on Saturday with 6 2/3 gutty innings.  The right-hander is 2-0 in his career against the Giants and he threw his only career complete game against San Francisco last July at Citizens Bank park.

San Francisco gives the ball to right-hander Tim Lincecum who has really struggled in 2012 - to the tune of a 3-10 record and a 5.93 ERA.  However, he did throw the ball very well last time out, pitching eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts against Houston.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Chris Branch, Phillies beat writer for The News Journal down in Delaware, about Friday night's match-up.
