World's Biggest Tech Show Opens In Las Vegas

By Ian Bush

LAS VEGAS, NV. (CBS) -- Many of the biggest names in tech are in Las Vegas this week for the International Consumer Electronics Show. Companies are taking the wraps off everything from cheap smartphone accessories to big-ticket gear.

Another year, another push for 'ultra HD' TVs.

"We're not so high on that stuff, because it's just a little too hard to tell the difference between 4k, 1080p," says CNET.com executive editor David Carnoy. "You really have to have the source material."

Mainstream movies and TV shows in higher than high-def are still out of reach, Carnoy says. But screens like LG's 55" OLED model show crisper colors; sports broadcasts look like you're there. All for the 'low' price of $12,000.

Apple isn't at CES, but there are tons of iPhone accessories, like the Rewind bluetooth earbuds. They have a retractable cord which maker Felt says will keep you from getting all tangled up while listening on the go.

Tech you can wear looks to be a trend: Vuzix is showing off what looks like a long Bluetooth earpiece that's actually an Android screen over one eye that displays text and email alerts, apps and augments reality.
