World Series is Actually Pretty Good

Last week, I told Angelo Cataldi on WIP that I didn't like the matchup for this 2011 World Series. After 2 games, I was intrigued. As we head into Game 5, I'm hooked. I told Ang that this morning in our weekly segment on Sportsradio 94 WIP.
The fact that the Phillies aren't in it, shouldn't mean we can't watch the World Series. I know the Phillies situation deserves a lot of attention, but the problems that we have been discussing aren't going to be fixed by this Wednesday (which would be the date of Game 7).

Albert Pujols 3 HR performance in Game 3 was only the 3rd time that's happened in World Series history. Derek Holland's Game 4 performance was masterful. I can't stand the Cardinals, and while the Rangers are far from a team I believe in, I'm actually pulling for Texas.
I have this rule on how to judge a World Series. Game 6 is mandatory. If it ends before that, the series is forgettable, no matter who is crowned champion. Furthermore, if a team goes up 3 games to 1, I am begging for the team with 3 wins to win Game 5, and then I can go home, and move on to the off-season. It's not that I'm lazy; I really believe the Game 4 holds the key.
Now, if the series winds up tied at 2-2, I'm hooked. The series is guaranteed a Game 6, and I'm hoping for a Game 7. And feel free to have Game 7 goes 15 innings.
My philosophy on the World Series has evolved over time. As a fan, I loved it. My favorite series was 1986, even though I'm not nor have ever been a fan of either team. The greatest game as fan was Game 7 of the 1991 Classic between, Jack Morris & John Smoltz. Again, no rooting interest.
The greatest World Series game(s) I have ever seen in person was Games 4 & 5 of the 2001 World Series. Yankee Stadium, right after 9/11, and the way those dramatic home runs happened, just were beyond amazing.
2011 was my 1st year working with CBS and the Philadelphia Phillies. Therefore, I do let my emotions connect to who I root for. Therefore, the thought of Tony LaRussa, Albert Pujols, and those obnoxious Cardinals fans celebrate would make me mildly nauseous. I'm pulling for Texas.
The Rangers are an interesting team. I've never really liked the pitching on that team, and have picked against them winning the AL West and every playoff series for the last 2 seasons. I have no issue with that team, and I'm fine with being wrong one more time. That's the beauty of baseball.
