PHILADEPHIA (CBS) --- There's no rest for the weary, especially when the weary is a hometown hero coming back a World Cup Champion.
As soon as Carli Lloyd stepped off the plane and into Philadelphia International Airport at 2am Wednesday morning, a group of cameras were waiting for her.
Even though she appeared tired, she had a smile on her face and was happy to speak to reporters, sign autographs, and take pictures with her fans.
The Delran, New Jersey. native helped propel Team USA to its first World Cup since 1999. And she did it in tremendous fashion, scoring a hat trick in the World Cup Final.
Now that she's home, Lloyd says she'll spend a little time with family and friends before hitting the road yet again. By week's end, she'll be in New York City for a ticker tape parade, a national celebration to honor the women who have inspired so many.
"It's been an unbelievable moment," Lloyd said in the airport. "I think it started to sink in when we got back to LA and we had that rally there with everybody. It's pretty amazing. Now I'm getting back to Philly, I'll probably only be here for a day and a half back home, and then its a whirlwind, roller coaster, just riding the wave, and enjoying the moment, but I'm so proud of the team. It's a moment we'll always cherish."
Lloyd was met at the airport by her fiance. They picked up her Team USA bags and headed home.
Lloyd says she hasn't gotten much sleep since the big win, and she still has a full schedule ahead of her, but she's looking forward to a nice vacation.
