World A-Twitter With Arrival Of Royal Baby

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The traditional easel at Buckingham Palace, used when Prince William was born 31 years ago, was upstaged by social media when it came to the announcement of the royal baby's arrival. Kensington Palace announced the royal arrival by email and Twitter first.
According to Twitter, the peak global conversation about the Royal Baby news came at 8:37 p.m. British Time in the moments following the announcement with more than 25,300 Tweets per minute.
There were more than two million mentions of the news on Twitter, with well-wishers using the hashtags #RoyalBaby, #RoyalBabyBoy and #RoyalBabyWatch.
Tweets about the news circled the globe with the highest volume coming from the U.S. in first place, the UK, Canada, France, and Italy. But the Royal Baby tweets did NOT surpass the numbers seen last November during President Obama's re-election, nor the Papal election in March.
The Royal baby watch is not over and you can expect your twitter feed to go gaga when the Duke and Duchess announce the name of their son which could take up to a week.
