Workshop To Prepare Special Needs Students For College Life
By Brad Segall
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - There will be a workshop in Montgomery County tonight designed to help special education students better prepare for college.
Heading off to college can be a daunting experience for any student but may be particularly hard for students with learning challenges who often have their own set of questions and concerns.
The workshop will give them and their parents a chance to hear from other special ed students who have gone through the process. Debbie Slavutsky, President of the North Penn Parents Special Education Council, says the students will talk about their transition to college.
"Knowing what to expect with their academic obligations obviously, managing their time, being a little bit more independent."
She says it can be a tremendous relief for students to hear from other students about what their experiences were like and how different it is from high school. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. in the North Penn Educational Services Center in Lansdale.
