Women's Equality Group Holds Rally At Constitution Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A day long event at the National Constitution Center signals an important step forward for Vision 2020, a national initiative designed to make equality a priority among women and men.

Vision 2020 was launched last October at the National Constitution Center by the Institute for Women's Health and Leadership At Drexel to make significant progress in women's leadership on all levels in a decade. 100 delegates -- two from each state -- have returned to Philadelphia for a progress update.

Catherine Ormerod, project director, said, "We are working toward pay equity, we are working to increase women in senior leadership positions, we are looking to mobilize women to vote in record numbers in the year 2020."

Lynn Yeakel (pictured), co-founder of Vision 2020, said, "I've always thought it was silly that we squander the brain power and the talent of half the population."

Two other goals include educating employers and children. Erin Vilardi, delegate from New York, said "I am hoping to work on a research project that engages men - looking at some of the differences around how we can have men as allies at advancing women as leaders."

The year 2020 will be the centennial of the 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote. People can become charter members of the movement by going to Drexel.edu/vision2020
