Women See Doctors More Often Than Men
by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough
The average male does not see the doctor as often as the average female. This is a statistical fact, especially during their thirties and forties.
Many women see the physician for one major reason, pregnancy and childbirth. In fact, it is the family physician or ob/gyn who does most of the examinations and treatments during these years.
But what about men?
What illnesses are they ignoring when they fail to visit the doctor? The list is surprisingly short -- including heart disease, cancer and unintentional injury. Thankfully, most men's health threats are largely preventable. The problem is that issues like high blood pressure and proper diet are often ignored.
It may not seem like it is important to see the physician but one visit a year for a physical is a good idea.
