'Women Against Abuse' Holding Holiday Gift Drive

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - For victims of domestic violence, this time of year can be especially tough. To help, Women Against Abuse is holding a gift drive for the hundred-or-so residents at its emergency shelter.
Every year, Women Against Abuse helps more than 13,000 victims of domestic violence, offering shelter, legal services and education.
Spokeswoman Cheryl Brubaker says at any given time, about 100 women and children are in their emergency shelter and this time of year, that's especially hard.
"When people come in to an emergency shelter, this is their last stop. They don't have anywhere else to go. If they're coming to our shelter it's because their life is likely in danger."
To spread some holiday cheer, Women Against Abuse is collecting toys for children -- most of whom are 6 and younger. And gifts for women too, including clothing, slippers, toiletries -- even gift cards are welcome.
Women Against Abuse will host gift drives throughout December at convenient Center City locations, including the William Way Community Center on December 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and WAA's Administrative Office on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting December 4 and ending December 18.
