Woman's Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Attempted Homicide Following Overnight Barricade Situation
MOUNT EPHRAIM, N.J. (CBS) -- Two people were injured and a suspect was taken into custody after a barricade situation in South Jersey Tuesday morning.
Adam Kirk was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other related offenses.
The incident played out inside a home in the 300 block of Liberty Avenue in Mount Ephraim, Camden County.
It is alleged that around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning Kirk broke into the home armed with a shotgun.
In the home was a 36-year-old female resident and her four children, three girls and a boy ranging in age from seven to 17.
The female allegedly had a long term romantic relationship with Kirk, but their relationship ended three months ago.
A 42-year-old man was also in the home at the time.
Kirk is charged with entering the home's bedroom and shooting the 42-year-old male in the arm. The male victim and the four children then fled the home as the female resident struggled with Kirk.
The shotgun was allegedly fired again, but the woman was not hit.
She attempted to barricade herself in a bathroom as Kirk pursued, slashing at her with a knife.
She received superficial cuts during the assault while fending him off but was able to call authorities.
When police arrived, Kirk stopped attacking her and barricaded himself into a bedroom.
He engaged in a standoff with law enforcement until he surrendered at 5:40 a.m.
A temporary restraining order has been filed against Kirk barring him from having any contact with the female.
Both victims are in stable condition at Cooper Hospital in Camden.
Kirk is being held in the Camden County Jail in lieu of $1,015,000 bail.
