Woman Sexually Assaulted Near Chestnut Hill College
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman on the campus of a Philadelphia college this past weekend.
"I'm honestly scared about this whole situation, I think it's weird," said Chestnut Hill College Freshmen Shannon McFadden, referring to a recent crime that happened on her college campus.
It started with a conversation on a SEPTA train around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, according to police, between a 26-year-old woman and man believed to be in his mid 20s.
The two, who had just met, got off together at the Chestnut Hill East stop and began walking down Germantown Avenue.
Police say the woman, who didn't really know her alleged attacker, continued the conversation for about a mile and a half until the two arrived at Chestnut Hill College.
It was at that point, police say, something went wrong. Near the exit of Fournier Hall is where the woman says she was sexually assaulted by the man she barely knew.
A college security guard spotted the victim and came to her aid. But the alleged attacker, described as a black man, wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt got away.
Security Alerts are now posted throughout the college, notifying students about what happened.
"I was just surprised, very surprised, because stuff like this doesn't happen on campus," said freshmen Mushe Wamulume.
Chestnut Hill College officials say they're now reviewing video, which could provide more clues.
Officials with the Philadelphia Special Victims Unit say they are working with the college and SEPTA to see if they have any video that could help in their investigation.
