Woman Found Dead Inside Car In Drexel Hill Apartment Complex
DREXEL HILL, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating the apparent shooting death of a woman whose body was discovered inside a parked car at about 12:05 p.m. on Friday.
"It's just crazy. I mean it's sick," Frank Hughes of Drexel Hill said.
According to police, landscapers found a woman dead in the passenger seat of a 2006 Chrysler 300.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood explained, "She was slumped over but not laying all the way down and her head was covered with a coat."
Police say the woman was shot once in the back of her left ear. Police believe the shooting occurred inside the car. Neighbors are convinced the woman had to have been shot elsewhere and then driven to their Creek Road Apartment complex in Drexel Hill.
Harry Dennis said, "Detectives have been asking everybody if we heard anything I didn't hear anything."
Hughes added, "I'm a pretty light sleeper so if there would have been a gunshot, I would have heard it."
Hughes lives in the apartment just above the parking spot where the car was left behind. Police say it is unclear who did this or why but they do know one thing.
Chitwood said, "The interesting thing is this vehicle was wanted as possibly being involved in a home invasion in early October."
According to police, that was in Montgomery County. In Delaware County just this Thursday, police say the registered owner of the car tried to report it stolen.
Chitwood said, "When the detectives started questioning her, she bolted, she ran."
Police say they know who the registered owner of the car is and they are actively searching for the owner hoping to get some answers.
In the meantime, police say the victim is a heavyset black female in her mid to late 30s. A handbag with some identification and pictures were also found in the car.
As of Friday night, police say it was not definitive the items belonged to the victim and a positive identification of the woman will be made pending the outcome of an autopsy scheduled to be performed on Saturday.
