Wolf Promotes "Government that Works" Reform Plan During Visit To Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf visited Philadelphia Monday to talk up his five-point "Government that Works" plan in a news conference at the headquarters of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce at the Bellevue.
Wolf spoke enthusiastically about the measures he wants to see required of every public official, an extension of those he's already imposed on the executive branch, starting with a total gift ban -- one so strict that he wouldn't drink from the bottle of water on the lectern. He's also calling for contract reform.
"I'm proposing that we disclose to the voters the amount of campaign contributions coming from executives, employees of companies doing business with the state going back two years," said the governor.
Wolf said those and the other measures are intended to rebuild the trust that "small d" democratic institutions need to survive.
"We need to make sure that people have full trust and confidence that the government in Harrisburg is doing everything in its power to represent the broad wishes of the people of Pennsylvania," Wolf said, "not the people who've made campaign contributions."
