PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Beth Anne Mumford of Americans for Prosperity in Pennsylvania, criticized Governor Tom Wolf and blamed him directly for the current budget impasse in the commonwealth.
During an interview with Talk Radio 1210 WPHT's Chris Stigall, Mumford alleged that Wolf won't move the process forward without additional tax increases.
"The holdup is the Governor. We're 60 days after the Legislature passed a budget that funded a lot of what the Governor wanted, but what it didn't do was raise taxes by $5 Billion and the Governor has been holding out for that tax increase."
She stated he's also refused to consider any changes that were submitted after his original veto earlier this summer.
"In the last 60 days the Legislature has come back with some additional proposals. They've added more money to education, they've looked at some different things to reform pensions that might be done in a way that the Governor would like, and still the Governor said no, unless I get those tax increases, I'm not signing the budget. We're still at an impasse 60 days after the budget was constitutionally due."
Mumford believes Wolf should be doing more to compromise with Republicans to pass something for the next fiscal year.
"The Governor could have line-item vetoed and just pulled out of the budget the things that he didn't like and that he really wanted to negotiate. He vetoed all of it. Every piece of it. Given that the continuing effort at negotiation seem to be stalled and they're going nowhere, I think that folks aren't quite clear what's going to happen next. There should be more conversation about the fact that we don't have a budget."
