With Storm Heading East, Many Opting To Travel Early

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's the start to one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
But Philadelphia Airport is expected to experience some weather problems on Wednesday, which is why some travelers are happy to be flying out before the storm.
"I would've liked to have gone on Tuesday, but now I'm glad I'm leaving today, because I know the weather is going to be a bear," says Maria Hull.
Airport officials say that when the delays hit on Wednesday, they'll have events to keep passengers busy.
"We've got family entertainment; we've got WIP 610 doing a radio show here," explains Victoria Lupica, the airport spokesperson.
According to a AAA survey, Monday is the busiest air travel day, while Wednesday is heaviest on the roadways.
"Five-hundred-thousand people from the Philadelphia region are going somewhere for the Thanksgiving holiday," says Jim Lardear, of AAA MidAtlantic.
With a storm headed our way, some travelers may opt for the train rather than their car.
"The railroad is a little bit more immune to some of the weather conditions that can make driving or flying or other modes of transportation a little bit of a hassle," explains Craig Schultz, of Amtrak.
But Amtrak says most of their lines out of 30th Street Station are almost sold out.
We are glad we are on the go today," traveler Eileen Jacobsen says.
"My son said, 'Don't you think about driving.' And so I'm glad we're not driving," agrees Amy Jacobsen.
Those who plan on hitting the road should have a Plan B.
"The backup plan is to wait until Friday," says Robert Boyd, Jr., another traveler.
But then, of course, you miss Thanksgiving.
