With Hurricane Sandy Bearing Down, Tree Trimmers Are Scrambling

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tree service companies are bracing for a busy few days once Hurricane Sandy hits our area.
Today, you could already see crews out in neighborhoods, pruning branches for folks trying to get a leg up on the impending storm.
"Because the leaf struccture is still on the trees right now, it's quite hazardous, because of the retention that's caused by the wind," says Sean Munnely with Liberty Tree and Landscape Management, "and it can blow trees over."
Munnely says all it takes is for one branch to fall on a power line and you have an outage.
His advice: take a good look at your trees, and if you have any reservations, call the experts.
Munnely expects to be out there in the middle of that "Frankestorm" with his chainsaw, but he's still hoping for the best.
"We've had a few storms come through here recently, so... The trees are pretty strong," he says.
Meanwhile, Peco is also making preparations, with a full fleet of vegetation management crews standing by.
