With Death Of Bin Laden, Bucks County Mother Recalls Talk With Son Slain In Iraq
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The family of a US Marine from Bucks County killed in the line of duty overseas says tonight's dinner in Doylestown honoring fallen heroes and their families now takes on a more special meaning after military forces killed the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks (see related stories).
The Travis Manion Foundation holds the dinner each year to recognize the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom.
Manion, from Doylestown, was killed in Iraq four years ago, and his family established the foundation to help wounded veterans and their families.
Travis' mother, Janet Manion, recalled today a conversation with her son about the importance of removing bin Laden.
"Well, I remember Travis saying there are good people on both sides, they just can't come together because of so much hatred. And if we can get rid of that hatred, these people can learn to live together," she told KYW Newsradio.
She says Travis is gone and there will never really be closure for her family but believes he's smiling down, saying "job well done, keep going now."
She says we should continue to pray for everyone in harm's way.
