Winter Woolies Fill City Council's Caucus Room After Annual 'Warmth In Winter'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – City Council's Caucus Room was awash in winter woolies this week. For the 13th straight year, volunteers brought in knitted hats, scarves, and mittens for children in need.
"[We have] every color that they have in the rainbow. Now they make yarn that has silver and gold threads running through it," says city councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown
A room full of inspiration. Knitted with love are gifts for children in the city's homeless shelters.
It's also the dream of who city councilwoman Brown who started her "Warmth in Winter" project 13 years ago after, then candidate Reynolds Brown, saw children without hats and mittens out in the cold.
"It broke my heart. So I said if I won I would start something in my office for homeless children," says Brown.
Her program has helped thousands over the years. Last year 1,500 pieces were donated.
Last week's "knit in" was a chance to socialize as participants had needles and yarn in hand.
The donations will be presented December 19th after they are counted and wrapped.
