Winter Storm Leaves Thousands Without Power Across Tri-State
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thousands of residents across the Delaware Valley are without power after a winter storm left most of the region covered in ice.
Residents awoke to glazed-over sidewalks, streets, cars and trees after sleet, freezing rain and in some places, ice, fell overnight. High winds and heavy limbs were no match for Mother Nature and in many neighborhoods, falling trees brought down power lines in their path.
Approximately 171,000 customers in the region have gained power, but PECO crews are still working to restore electricity to 13,500 of its customers. PECO says they hope to restore all power by Thursday night, but some residents may not get power until Friday morning. Bucks County and Montgomery County are affected the most with about 5,000 and 4,000 outtages prospectively.
PPL Electric says approximately 4,563 customers in this region remain without power, with nearly 116 customers in Lehigh County.
Across the river in New Jersey, only scattered outages were reported. PSE&G says approximately 1,300 customers remain in the dark. In Delaware, Delmarva says approximately 8 customers are without power.
The agencies say crews are working to restore all outages.
