Winter Storm Leaves Major Impact On Sunday Travel
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This weekend's winter storm came and went, but not before it left behind some tricky travel conditions.
The latest bout with Old Man Winter saw a mixed bag of snow, sleet and rain, depending on which part of the region you live. Much of that ice and freezing rain fell overnight, covering the snow, especially in the northern and western suburbs, making for slushy and slippery conditions.
People woke up Sunday morning to find their sidewalks, steps, driveways and even their vehicles frozen over.
The main roads, like the Vine Street Expressway, the Schuylkill Expressway and I-95 were heavily treated and were mostly wet, but many side streets were slippery.
Officials were urging motorists to reduce speeds and to watch out for patches of black ice.
SEPTA was running on a normal weekend schedule, but several bus routes were detoured and service was suspended on the Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail until about 10:30 a.m. Click here for current updates on SEPTA service.
The FAA was not reporting any local departure delays at Philadelphia International Airport, but travelers were encouraged to check with individual airlines due to weather conditions in other cities nationwide. For flight status, visit: PHL.org or call 1-800-PHL-GATE.
Storm-related power outages were at a minimum. PECO was reporting less than 2,000 customers without power as of late Sunday morning.
