Storm Causes Transportation Issues Throughout Delaware Valley

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) –– The late season winter storm and the strong winds that are accompanying it are impacting travel on area bridges.

According to officials with the Delaware River Port Authority, as a result of high winds, an empty trailer ban is in effect on the Walt Whitman Bridge and the Commodore Barry Bridge until further notice.

In addition, officials with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry have canceled four scheduled departures for Wednesday. Due to high winds, high seas and safety concerns, the 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. departures from Cape May, N.J. and the 4:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. leaving Lewes, Delaware have been canceled.

Normal operations are expected to resume Thursday morning with the 7:30 a.m. departure from Cape May, New Jersey.

Officials also say the White Horse Pike (Rt. 30), Shore Road and Ohio Avenue have been temporarily closed in Absecon due to flooding. The Black Horse Pike (Rt. 40/322) has been reduced to one lane in both directions between Pleasantville and Atlantic City.

Officials are asking motorists not to drive through flood waters.
