Wilt Chamberlain 100 Point Court Pieces Get Big Money On Ebay
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Last Friday night, nearly 20,000 people packed the Wells Fargo Center to pay tribute to one of the greatest individual accomplishments in sports history, the night Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points. Each person who attended the game got a 2"x2" piece of the court the legendary game was played on. Then, some of those people ran home and sold those pieces as fast as they possibly could.
Many Ebay auctions for the court pieces closed for as much as $145. The least expensive piece went for $49, but that was out of the ordinary. The average sold price was around $100. Many pieces were listed before Friday night's game against the Warriors had even ended.
It seems like striking while the iron is hot was key, as most pieces listed currently have few bids, and no current auction has a bid higher than $76 (coincidentally). There are many court pieces listed without a bid at all.
Bobbleheads have been some of the most popular giveaways in the sports world in recent years, and the Sixers have had three of those this season, featuring Jrue Holiday, Lou Williams and Doug Collins. Each are available on Ebay for around $25.
