Wilmington Police Chief Expects Charges In Fatal High School Assault By End Of Week
WILMINGTON, De. (CBS) -- Many in the Wilmington community are demanding answers after the death of a 16-year-old student at Howard High School. Police say she was assaulted in the girls bathroom.
Members of the community are working through their grief together.
Four days after Howard High School sophomore Amy Joyner was killed in a violent attack, more than 100 hundred people, from throughout the community, gathered to discuss the case.
"We are currently investigating this incident," Wilmington Police Chief Bobby Cummings told those assembled there on Monday night. "We're working with the school district."
"We all have to work together to find a solution," said Patricia Dailey Lewis of the Beau Biden foundation.
The community meeting took place as charges have still not been filed against two female students that police say may have been involved in the assault.
Cummings told Eyewitness News that he is "absolutely," expecting charges in this case.
As for a timeline, Cummings said he fully expects charges to be filed by the end of the week. School district officials say that they plan on having grief counselors at Howard, at least for the next few days.
