Suspect Identified Following Deadly Police Involved Shooting In Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Delaware authorities have released the identity of the man shot and killed by a trooper who was allegedly dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Friday afternoon.
In a statement released Saturday, officials say that the incident took place just before 4:30 p.m. Friday after a trooper saw a burgundy Honda Civic that was driving erratically strike a pole on Boxwood Road near Centerville Road, in Wilmington.
Investigators say, the suspect, now identified as 30-year-old Adam Radcliffe of Willmington, fled the scene of the crash in his vehicle.
The trooper would then follow Radcliffe and proceeded to make contact with him. According to authorities, Radcliffe sped off with the trooper attached to the passenger side door dragging him.
Police say the trooper would then fire his weapon striking Radcliffe before he drove off down Farrand Drive.
Troopers later would locate the Radcliffe inside of his vehicle at the end of Farrand Drive. Police say Radcliffe drove through a fence and then into a small creek.
Troopers say they removed Radcliffe from the vehicle and Emergency Medical Personnel transported Radcliffe to Christiana Hospital where he later die from his injuries.
The trooper, only identified as a 37-year-old man, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
Officials say the trooper has been on the force for 11 years, and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
