Will Memphis' Paxton Lynch Be Chip Kelly's Answer At Quarterback?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles playoff hopes were demolished on Sunday when they lost to Washington. The game was the biggest of the season for the Birds and they failed to rise to the occasion and naturally, questions arise about the future.
The biggest question mark for the team is what to do with quarterback Sam Bradford. He looked like a franchise signal-caller in the preseason, tailed off when the games started to count and then found some consistent later in the year.
However, Bradford never looked like a sure thing, and considering the price that it took for the Eagles to acquire him, it's fair to wonder if the team will look in another direction.
CBSSports posted a mock draft reflecting the draft if it were to occur today. Obviously, there is still one week of games left in the regular season and the order can change, but if it took place now, the Eagles would have the 12th overall pick.
The draft has the Eagles taking Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch with the pick.
Lynch is viewed by many as being one of the top two quarterbacks in this class with Cal's Jared Goff. The mock has Goff going at No. 5 to the 49ers, leaving the more mobile Lynch to fall into Chip Kelly's lap.
The talking point for Kelly has always been that he doesn't need a mobile quarterback to win games, but remember, he did originally choose Mike Vick over Nick Foles when both were healthy. Kelly can deny it all he wants, but he knows his read option plays would actually mean something if he had a quarterback that could move a little bit.
Lynch stands at 6'6", 245 lbs and has the big arm/mobility pairing that seems to make sense with this scheme.
Lynch has passed for 3,670 yards this season to go along with a completion percentage of 69. He has 28 touchdowns to just three interceptions and rushed for two more scores.
If you haven't taken a look at Lynch yet this season, Memphis will square off with Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl on Wednesday. The Eagles wrap up the season on Sunday and a win will do nothing to help their chances to land Lynch, or any other impact player that the team may be targeting.
