Wildwood, NJ Setting Up An In-Season, Dog-Friendly Beach

WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS) -- Officials in Wildwood, NJ have approved a plan that sets up a pet-friendly beach along a one-block stretch on the northern end of town.
Fido has had to stay off the Wildood beaches during the summer season. But this year, come mid-June, dogs will be allowed to frolic on the beach at Poplar Avenue, between the boardwalk and the water's edge.
Wildwood commissioner Pete Byron says the idea has been warmly received by year-round residents.
"Ninety-nine percent of the feedback we've gotten from the community, as well as the business community, has been, 'Wow, this is a great idea,' " he said today.
Signs will be posted to designate the pet-friendly area-- it stops just before Magnolia, the next street walking south.
There will be watering stations and waste bags provided for owners to clean up after their animals.
And just like for humans in the Wildwoods, there's no need to buy a beach tag for your dog.
