Wife Dead, Husband Arrested In Burlington County Murder

By David Madden

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ (CBS) -- Authorities in Burlington County have charged a Somerdale man with the murder of his 54-year-old wife along Route 130 in Delran late Thursday night.

Police were dispatched to what they thought was an automobile accident on 130 at Chestnut Avenue. They found a Chevy Cruze parked there, but Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi says this was no accident.

"When they arrived there, they saw the victim, Cynthia Fortune, laying on the roadway and she was apparently deceased and later pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital," Bernardi told KYW Newsradio.

It appears Cynthia had been behind the wheel of the car when she was stabbed and detectives found a bloody knife inside the vehicle in plain view.

Witnesses led police to Fortune's husband, 37-year-old Quentin, at a nearby diner.

"He was only wearing his t-shirt, underwear and a pair of sneakers," Bernardi said. "We did find clothing that had been discarded behind one of the businesses along route 130 that had apparent blood all over it."

What led to the stabbing is not known. Quentin Fortune is held in lieu of $300,000 cash bail on charges topped by first degree murder.
