What's Open, What's Closed on July 5th Holiday

by KYW's Jim Melwert

Today is a day off for many workers.  With Independence Day falling on a Sunday this year, the federal government and many businesses have declared a Monday holiday.

So what's opened and closed today?

In Pennsylvania, all state and federal agencies are closed -- and that includes liquor stores.

No stock market activity today, so most financial companies will be taking the day off.

In Philadelphia, city agencies won't be opening today, libraries and recreation centers will also be closed.

There's no postal service or mail today.

Also in the city, no trash collection today.  Pick-ups the rest of the week will be pushed back one day.

The Independence National Historic Park is open -- and a popular destination -- today, including the visitors' center and the Constitution Center.

And good news if you are visiting or working in town: you don't have to feed parking meters in Philadelphia today.

Septa is running on a Sunday schedule, and Patco is running on a special holiday schedule.

Happy July 5th!
