What's Next For Casino Referendum, Atlantic City Aid Package

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Projects that will have a huge impact on Atlantic City are moving through the New Jersey Legislature, including plans for an expansion of casino gambling to the northern part of the state, and a financial assistance package for the seaside gambling resort.

But additional votes, and consideration by Gov. Chris Christie, still loom in the coming weeks.

Dueling proposals for a referendum on expanding casino gambling to the northern part of the state advanced in Senate and Assembly committees, but key differences remain to be worked out.

The full Assembly also passed what remains of an Atlantic City financial assistance package, topped by a bill that would let its eight casinos make specified payments in lieu of property taxes for 15 years.

The Senate still needs to pass it.
