What's New At The Shore: Parades, Festivals, Fireworks

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Summertime is festival time "down the shore."
Wildwood deputy mayor Pete Byron says there's a festival or a parade scheduled for almost every week of the summer season, and beyond.
"We have the Elks, we have the firemen, we have the motorcycle guys who come down," Byron tells KYW Newsradio. "We have car parades, we have the American Legion, the Mummers. They're probably the main parades that come to town."
Judy Ludavico, chief entertainment officer with the Atlantic City Alliance, says they, too, have a slew of events -- some new, while other popular events are now in their second year.
"We have a full slate of entertainment and events all throughout the summer, starting with the 'Do AC' sandsculpting world cup," she says.
And while most shore towns host Independence Day fireworks displays, Jeff Guaracino chief strategy officer of the the Atlantic City Alliance, says their 4th of July fireworks are about three times the size of the Philadelphia fireworks show. And this year, he adds, there's a twist.
"So instead of us saying, 'Here's your great fireworks show and the music that we chose,' we turned through social media to the people and we said, 'You tell Atlantic City what songs you want to hear as a part of your fireworks show.' And then we had our fireworks company, the same people who do the Macy's fireworks show in New York, creating the People's Fireworks Show," he said.
