What's Cooking on 1060: Zoo Party, Park Picnic, and Japanese Dining in Manayunk

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Zoo hosts its fourth annual Summer Ale Festival fundraiser this Saturday night.

"We have several locations in the zoo underneath tents," explains the zoo's Laura Houston (top photo).  "Lots of vendors to go around, so you'll have a cluster of vendors that you can eat and drink and then walk a little bit, enjoy some animals, and then eat and drink some more from some other vendors!"

Speaking of outdoor events, there's a new, secret (!) one that's expected to accommodate thousands.  It's called Diner En Blanc ("dinner in white").

"It is an elegant picnic that takes place in a public spot," says organizer Netanya DiBona (below).   Diner En Blanc doesn't take place until next month, but you have to register now.

----

"When you register, you pick a meeting spot so you will know five weeks out of the event that you need to be at a certain spot at 6:30pm on Thursday, August 23rd.  From there, you're led to the secret location," DiBona explains.

And there's a new Japanese restaurant in Manayunk, called Yanako.  Owner Pat Polwitoon says their executive chef, who is from Okinawa, will be serving up healthy delicacies.

"Okinawa is believed to be one region in Japan that people have the longest life," Polwitoon says.  He adds that the menu is not just sushi.

---

"We have a lot of selections of Japanese hot food which we hope to introduce," he says.
