What's Cooking on 1060: Sbraga, Zahav, and... Tippling!

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Anne Frey's new establishment, 1 Tippling Place, is located at 2006 Chestnut Street in center city Philadelphia.

"It's comfortable, it's kind of trying to recreate the old pub culture," she says.  "We're trying to keep the noise level down so people can talk and have really good cocktails, fairly priced, and some really good cocktail food."

And she promises it will be a cozy hangout when the season changes.

"There will be a fireplace operating, so in the wintertime it will be a nice place to come before dinner, after dinner... skip dinner.  Whatever!"

Meanwhile, chef Kevin Sbraga is going back to school with his new school-inspired chef's counter at Sbraga restaurant, at Broad and Pine Streets.

"No hairnets and no lunch ladies allowed," he tells KYW Newsradio.

-----

So, what's on the menu?

"We have fish and chips, we have tater tots, we've got salisbury steak, we have a really cool milkshake going on.  I mean, it's just gonna be off the wall."

And chef Michael Solomonov is also offering a chef's counter at his Old City restaurant, Zahav ("gold" in Hebrew).

-----

"It's four seats every Friday and Saturday.  We only seat once," Solomonov explains.  "It's me, essentially cooking 10 or 12 courses and that's it.  One menu -- zeu ("that's it"), as we say in Hebrew!"
