What's Cooking On 1060: Local Marketplace, Global Recipes, and More!

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Owners of the venerable "Trust" Building, at 3rd and Arch Streets in Old City, have gotten the green light for a future food market and a roof deck restaurant.

The building is a fixture in Old City.  It has served, over the years, as an art gallery, an event space, a church, an "MTV Real World" house, and a bank.

And now, developer Jared Yaron says, construction begins this summer to turn it into an indoor marketplace.

"We'll bring in all the best products that you find in the very best markets when you shop," he tells What's Cooking.  "One of the things I know we really want to do is have an amazing produce display."

Take-out beer will also be available.

"The neighborhood agreed to allow us to buy a (liquor) license as long as we adhere to the principals of not becoming a nightclub," Yaron says.

And later, he says, they'll build up the roof deck:

"So that'll be on phase two.  It'll be a restaurant-lounge experience."

Meanwhile, Philadelphia author David Joachim has a new cookbook, titled Cooking Light, Global Kitchen.

"It's kind of like the culinary 'greatest hits from around the world,' but it's all recipes that people want from every continent," he explains.

Each chapter features a different continent, with a total of 150 recipes from all around the world, starting in the East (Asia) and moving west (ending with the Americas).

Many of the recipes came from the "Cooking Light" magazine archives from experts in various cuisines, with about 30 additional recipes developed by Joachim himself.

And the annual Red Cross "red tie" fundrasier, the Red Ball, takes place this Saturday, March 8th, at the Please Touch Museum.

Judge Renne Cardwell Hughes, CEO of the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross (right), says it'll be a food-filled evening.

"It's a tasting party," she says.  "We have more than two dozen restaurants.  We've got a beer garden.  This is the one event of the year you do not want to miss."
