What's Cooking on 1060: Familiar Food Treats Finding New Territories

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The folks from the Lil' Pop Shop in West Philadelphia have just opened a second store, at 4th and South Streets.
Owner Jeanne Chang's initial popsicle store and her mobile ice pop truck did so well this year that she opened a second store across town.
"We're opening up at 534 South 4th Street, which is across from Jim's Steaks and Starbucks," she tells KYW Newsradio.
And their flavors are unconventional.
"We have a cherry lambic," Chang says. "We use fresh cherries and then we add a lambic, which is a German cherry beer, to it. We are mostly inspired by what's seasonal and what comes from the local farms, and we also have a strawberry rhubarb lemonade right now, and all the ingredients except the lemons are local."

Also, the Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is launching its summer dessert tricycle!
Co-owner Linda Brown says the delivery trike, which evokes the same retro theme as the stores, will be appearing at food events throughout the city all summer long.

"On the tricycle we will have our (ice cream) sandwiches -- vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry -- and we'll have our cupcakes and cookies," Brown tells What's Cooking.

And if you love food festivals, you won't want to miss the Food Trust's second Night Market of the season, next Thursday evening, June 20th, in West Oak Lane.
Night Market manager Diana Iskolsky Minkus says this event tends to draw thousands of people every time.

"There's an incredible amount of food at Night Market," Minkus says. "There's usually between 50 and 60 vendors. It's a combination of the local restaurant scene to really highlight what the community has to offer, as well as the amazing food trucks and other great caterers and great restaurants that all just want to be a part of it."
