PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "Flavors of the Avenue," coming this weekend, is East Passyunk Avenue's tastiest food fundraiser of the year.
Renee Gilinger (top photo), executive director of the East Passyunk Business Improvement District, says the event will take place this Saturday, April 27th, and raises money for extra security on East Passyunk Avenue.
"We set up a giant circus tent in the parking lot on East Passyunk Avenue between Tasker and Morris," Gilinger tells What's Cooking, "and we have over 20 restaurants come and offer samples of their signature dishes and drinks."

Then, next month, Les Dames D'Escoffier holds a one-day culinary symposium in West Philadelphia.
Kathy Gold, president of the Philadelphia chapter of this women's food, hospitality, and farming organization, says her organization will be holding this year's event at The Restaurant School, 4207 Walnut Street, on May 4th.
----
"Les Dames D'Escoffier is an invitational organization for women in food and hospitality and farming," Gold explains. "The day is filled with hands-on cooking classes and panel discussions."

So, what cake concepts are hot with brides these days?
"They love the rhinestones, they like the drages, which are silver and gold to accent the cake and make it sparkle," Carr explains. "There's a pearlized spray that makes it shimmery -- people really, really love that this year."

And for this week, that's "What's Cooking on 1060!"
