What's Cooking on 1060: Based on the Book, Based on the Art, Based on Birra

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Gordon Dinnerman now owns two restaurants: Birra, on Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia, and a new one -- Barra -- near 3rd and Chestnut Streets in Old City.

"We're taking some of the favorites from Birra and transferring them up here," Dinnerman (top photo) says.   "Actually, I have a wood-burning oven here, so we're doing them actually a little bit better."

Over at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Scott Barnes -- director of marketing for Starr Events -- says they're hosting a Tiki "pop-up" restaurant on Thursday, June 28th, through Saturday, June 30th, on the museum's east terrace.

---

"The exhibit coming into town is 'Gauguin, Cézanne, Matisse: Visions of Arcadia,' and a lot of those artists are inspired by Polynesian and tropical works of art," Barnes explains, "and the menu is certainly all Polynesian-inspired, with your traditional favorites -- from the roasted pig to the good ol' Mai Tai."

Meanwhile, Supper Restaurant, at 926 South Street, is also doing a special dinner.  Co-owner Jennifer Prensky says it's based on a book from the popular trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey.

---

"I was reading the book and I came across this menu that they were doing for this masked ball charity event in the book," Prensky tells KYW Newsradio, "and as I was reading the menu I said, 'Wow, this is something that Mitch would cook!' "

She expects most of the attendees of the June 27th dinner on  to be female fans of the book.

"I figure that this is my own 'girls night out' party here at Supper," she says.
