What's Cooking On 1060: 2 New Spots in Kensington, 1 in Center City
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- The restaurant Cook and Shaker is now open at 2301 East Albert Street, in Kensington. The "shaker" is a cocktail shaker.
"I wanted to find a name that included both food and drink, and I wanted to make sure people understood that it was not just going to be beer," says owner Laura Viegas (top photo).
So what's on the menu?
"We're doing elevated comfort food, kind of focusing a lot on sandwiches, we have a few salads, a lot of snacky items," she says.

And nearby, St. Benjamin Brewing Company comes to South Kensington this winter. In the meantime, you can get a taste of what's to come at their beer-and-dinner collaboration with Circles, an Asian fusion restaurant in Northern Liberties, on November 14th.
Founder and brewer Tim Patton (right) explains why he wants to open in Kensington this winter:
"One, because there were two amazing breweries already there, as well as a great history of brewing -- breweries like Schmidt's Brewing, Gretz Brewing Company -- and also from a practical perspective, there were a lot of really great buildings and real estate available."

In center city Philadelphia, another Nomad Pizza has opened quietly at 1305 Locust Street, on the site of the former Spiga restaurant.
"The real estate agent gave us a call on a Friday, we looked at it on a Monday, and we decided to buy it on a Wednesday," says co-owner Stalin Bedon.
(Kuznits:) "I see you have a gorgeous pizza oven in the back."
(Bedon:) "Yes, we do. The oven has been here for over 20 years."
(Kuznits:) "A very lucky, perfect fit."
(Bedon:) "That's what we thought!"
