What's Cooking on 1060: French Dining, Irish Oktoberfest, and a Tasty Fundraiser

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The new restaurant Will BYOB, at 1911 East Passyunk Avenue, is a classic French restaurant with a progressive approach to cooking, says general manager Chris Perotti.

"Well, you can think of classic French dishes like confit of duck or riettes, or a Lyonnaise salad, and basically taking that idea and deconstructing it and changing it all around so the same flavors come through, the same idea comes through, but the approach is completely different," Perotti tells KYW Newsradio.

Meanwhile, Christopher Mullins, general manager of McGillin's Olde Ale House, 1310 Drury Lane in center city Philadelphia, says they're celebrating Oktoberfest in September.

-----

"Because, really, Oktoberfest starts at the end of August and it runs right up until the beginning of October," Mullins explains.  "It historically celebrates the harvest and the beginning and the preparation for winter."

And he says these seasonal beers are unique.

"Oktoberfest beers are Märzen style beer.  They're copper in color, (with) mild flavor.  There's not a lot of hops in it, and they average about five to six percent alcohol."

And Nick Stuccio of the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe reminds you that the "Feastival" fundraiser takes place on Wednesday, September 12th.

"It's a celebration of the culinary arts and the performing arts, and it's to benefit our organization, the Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe," Stuccio (below) says.

-----

Feastival takes place right next to the Race Street Pier, at Pier 9, just off Columbus Boulevard.
