What A Surprise: Jonathan Papelbon Doesn't Want To Return To Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This bit of news might be FAR from a surprise this holiday season, but it appears that former Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has no intention of coming back to Philadelphia -- to pitch for the Phillies that is.

According to an ESPN report, Papelbon has submitted his 17 team no-trade list to the Nationals, locking in which teams Papelbon cannot be shipped to without his consent.

Among those 17 teams is the Philadelphia Phillies.

Does Papelbon really have anything to worry about though? It seems like he made a list, but definitely didn't check it twice.

After stuff like this, this, this...and this, the Phillies are certainly in no rush to bring their all-time saves leader back to town.

It almost seems like a waste for Papelbon to have used one of his 17 teams on the Phillies. The Phillies have shown nothing of late pointing to them wanting to add on a piece anything like Papelbon in terms of age, ability and salary.

They just traded a younger, cheaper version of him away.

With that said, there is no reason for Papelbon to be up to date on the activities of the Phillies, but common sense alone should have told him there was no need to list them. Perhaps he's just going above and beyond to make sure a reunion doesn't happen and something tells me he'll get that wish no matter what.

He certainly doesn't have to put it on his wishlist.
