Wet Weather, Flooding Forecast For Much Of Delaware Valley
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The National Weather Service declared a flood watch Tuesday for much of Pennsylvania as heavy rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee moved slowly up the East Coast.
Broad swaths of the state, except the far northwestern corner, are at risk for flooding over the next couple days, forecasters said.
As much as 5.5 inches of rain is expected to fall across southeastern Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley to the Poconos. Philadelphia already received a record 19.3 inches of rain in August.
Central Pennsylvania could see more than five inches of rain, potentially leading to extensive flooding through Friday, according to the weather service in State College.
Major flooding is predicted on the Juniata River in Lewistown and Williamsburg, as well as along Bald Eagle Creek near Beech Creek.
Moderate flooding is forecast at points along the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg north to Towanda.
The weather service said streams and creeks already saturated by Hurricane Irene last month are at greatest risk.
