West: Too Early To Tell On 2016 Candidates, But Not On Issues
By Dom Giordano
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We may only be a few days into 2015, but it's clearly never too early to start talking about 2016 presidential candidates. Whether it be former Gov. Jeb Bush, Gov. Chris Christie, or former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, there is no shortage of names that have been popping up.
One of the names that have been thrown around by many as a possible Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican ticket is Lt. Col. Allen West. West talked with WPHT midday host Dom Giordano about the issues that will shape this election, especially after the Republican victories this past November.
"It's so important that the GOP with the House and the Senate now go on the offensive. When the President comes out and talks about him threatening to use the veto pen, they should challenge him on it. I know that they're going to have to send the Keystone XL pipeline legislation over and you have bipartisan support there, but when you look at healthcare, we need to talk about the medical device tax, we need to talk about the individual mandate tax. You know, I mean 20 new taxes. That's what Obamacare really is. It is a wealth redistribution scheme."
While he does feel that education reform is going to be one of the bigger issues come the next election, Col. West reaffirms that it is going to be much more than just Obamacare and the Keystone Pipeline.
"I believe that as we get closer to 2016, the economy is still a very important big important part of how we get back to a free market economy and not really a federal reserve driven economy. Foreign policy and national security I think are going to also step up to be in the top three or four issues for the American people by 2016. "
While he feels the issues for the next election have been decided, West is confident that it is too early to tell who is a good candidate or not.
