West Philly School Gets a New Playground -- In One Day
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some schoolchildren in West Philadelphia spent the afternoon Friday doing something they've never done before: swinging off monkey bars and sliding down sliding boards near their school.
St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in West Philadelphia got a special treat from the folks at Keystone Mercy Health Plan -- they got a playground (above).
(Girl:) "I was waiting for this playground to get here! I was so happy."
And Anne Morrisey with Keystone Mercy says they did it in one day:
"There's a fair amount of prep work that goes along with it, but you bring in a lot of people."
It's the ninth playground Keystone Mercy has built since 2007:
"Part of the mission of our organization is to build healthy communities. So, part of a healthy child's world is to have a safe place to play where they can exercise and get physically active."
(Girl:) "I am super excited to have a place to play. That parking lot that we play in is so small and we don't have nowhere to play, and so I'm happy that we have a playground now."
