West Philadelphia Residents To Host Peace Walk

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – West Philadelphia Residents, living near 58th and Callowhill Streets, planned a walk Sunday afternoon to underscore their disgust with neighborhood crime, homicides, and shootings in the city.
Gun violence is covered in the news just about everyday in Philadelphia. Investigators search for clues and yellow crime scene tape is an unfortunate yet familiar sight in some neighborhoods.
Neighborhoods suffer the most when innocent lives are lost and victims' families are left to grieve.
Last year we introduced you to Joel Seay. He's the father of 18-year-old Jarell Seay. The teen was shot and killed right in front of his dad. The shooting occurred on the front porch of the family's West Philadelphia home on Easter Sunday, right after dinner.
Tears and sadness were followed by hope. Jarell's parents started a foundation in their son's name. Sunday afternoon they will lead a peace walk from the Shepard Recreation Center, to honor everyone who's been impacted by gun violence.
So far this year, police have reported 189 homicides. Organizers of Sunday's peace walk say they're working to prevent future homicides. The want to continue to replace news headlines featuring criminals, with ones about communities that care.
The peace walk will start at 3:30 p.m. at 58th and Callowhill Streets.
